Support the Minerals Management Service (MMS) Five-Year Leasing Program

It is critical that both the federal Minerals Management Service (MMS) and members of Congress hear from members of the Partnership for America’s Energy Security in support of the new five-year leasing program that will expand our nation’s access to the resource-rich Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).

Please tell MMS that it should move forward with its plan to open 31 new leases for oil and natural gas exploration. This plan will create thousands of new jobs, enhance our nation’s energy security, and contribute substantially to our nation’s economy.

I am writing in support of the Draft Proposed Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing Program 2010--2015 that will allow development of more domestic oil and natural gas resources off our coasts. Oil and natural gas will play an essential part of this nation's energy future for decades to come, and for too long these important resources have been off limits to development. There is no time for further delays in opening these areas; the time is now.

MMS should make access to ALL OCS areas a high priority for our nation. The next OCS Leasing Program should retain the 31 proposed lease sales in 12 OCS areas to improve our energy security, support future economic growth and to help reduce our dependence on imports.  I urge the MMS to open all proposed areas of the OCS to responsible oil and natural gas production with no restrictions such as arbitrary buffer zones.

Opening all available domestic resources to safe and environmentally responsible development can significantly boost U.S. supplies of oil and natural gas; increase the nation's energy security; add more well-paying American jobs; help with our balance of payments and economic growth during times of recession and bring billions of dollars into the Treasury instead of sending them abroad.
